TV PIE
TV Pie, dirt, glass, metal, TV, 3.5′ x 2′ x 1′, 1995
TV PIE was a natural evolution of discovering the joy of melting things in the kiln during the process of making RWANDA. For that piece, I made the background and bodies out of clay, stoneware & porcelin, and added bottles & bricks, copper & iron, and various shards of meltable materials to create a kind of archeological gravesite. It was so fun that I continued with series of melted tableau, TV PIE, being the best of them. The following images provide a running commentary on its making. After completing TV PIE, I wanted to melt a dumptruck or an oil tanker, but since I lacked a kiln big enough, I moved on to working in foam and fiberglass.
